Palais Ferstel is an architectural gem in the heart of Vienna, is adorned with exquisite frescoes, elegant chandeliers, and intricate marble floors, which exude timeless elegance and sophistication, creating the perfect setting for our Gala Dinner.
The Palais was built between 1856 and 1860, originally serving as the Austrian National Bank and Stock Exchange. Designed by the talented architect Heinrich von Ferstel, the building reflects a blend of Venetian and Florentine Gothic styles, showcasing elaborate frescoes, grand arcades, and ornate details that highlight its historical significance. Named in honour of its architect, Palais Ferstel quickly became a hub of economic and social activity in 19th-century Vienna.
In the early 20th century, the building transitioned from financial functions to cultural ones, housing the famous Café Central, a gathering place for intellectuals, writers, and revolutionaries. During and after World War II, the building suffered damage but was meticulously restored in the 1980s. The Viennese basketball community patched up the Palais after the war and transformed it into a basketball arena. It was not until 1978 that a painstaking restoration project was initiated under its new owners.
Today, Palais Ferstel is not only a cherished monument but also a premier venue for events, elegantly bridging the past with the present, while continuing to serve as a vibrant part of Vienna’s cultural and social landscape.
